What are the main coverages in a homeowners policy?

Updated over a month ago

Most home policies include six key parts:

  • A – Dwelling: The house itself.

  • B – Other Structures: Detached garage, shed, fence.

  • C – Personal Property: Your belongings.

  • D – Loss of Use: Pays for temporary housing and meals if you can’t live at home after a covered loss.

  • E – Liability: Protects you if someone is injured or sues for property damage.

  • F – Medical Payments: Covers small guest injuries (like stitches).

Optional add-ons include flood coverage, water-backup protection, jewelry riders, and replacement-cost coverage for contents.
